Effective Intercession

As we have slept, this nation has been taken

By every sin ever known to man;

So at its gates, though burnt by fire and broken,

In Jesus' name we come to take our stand,"

 (Your Mercy Flows by Wes Sutton Word Music UK 1988)

 Revival can begin in the heart of one person who believes in God who answers prayer.  When the burden to believe for our nation comes upon a person, no rest can be found, except in crying to God.  The Lord is raising up special people in the nation with such a burden at this time.  First, they must be a true worshipper who worships God in spirit and truth and then the Lord will lay a burden upon that person.  They are not looking for public recognition but simply seeking to please the Father and see God's kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.

When you consider those who were true worshippers and effective intercessors, Daniel is a good example.  Daniel knew it was the time for the restoration of God's house and for the kingdom to be restored to Israel, so he had a destiny in God to pray for this to come to pass.  He set his face with prayer, supplication and fasting. He reminded the Lord of His covenant to His people and for the prophecy of Jeremiah to be fulfilled.  He acknowledged his sin and the sin of God's people, that they had departed from His statutes and despised and ignored His prophets.  He reminded the Lord of His righteousness and the evil of their ways in His sight.

Daniel prayed Daniel 9:17 "cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate for the Lord's sake".  Notice it says, ‘for the Lord's sake'.  "O Lord incline thy ear, open thine eyes and behold our desolations"

In Verse 18 while Daniel continued in daily prayer and intercession Gabriel the Archangel came and talked with him and revealed to him the destiny of the nation of Israel in the vision of the seventy weeks.  Also Daniel received assurance God would restore the temple and rebuild Jerusalem under Nehemiah and Ezra.

We must learn to pray like Daniel, that is to pray the word of God which is the will of God.  The Lord has called us to the kingdom for such a time as this.  As we seek His face and humble ourselves like Mordecai and Esther, God's Sceptre will be extended to us.  We can gain favour with the King of kings as Esther did.  Bring our requests before Him and watch and pray.  He will hear from heaven and answer.

It is evident as we the church look at the times in which Daniel and Esther lived that they were similar to our present generation.  The church in our nation is depleted.  The principles of the foundation of our faith have been eroded.  The church no longer relies on the power of the Holy Spirit but has looked to other means to promote the Gospel.  We desperately need a revival and restoration of God's house to true worship for a demonstration of the power of God.

Also, opposition has arisen in our land something like Mordecai and Esther encountered.  Forces are at work to silence the preaching of the Gospel in our public places, universities and the media in the name of ‘political correctness'.  A new term has arisen in our nation ‘Christianophobia'.

We need to humble ourselves and acknowledge that more than ever before we need the Lord to intervene and revive His people.  The world needs to see God's power displayed in signs and wonders through His Church.  Our prayer must be have mercy on Your Church and revive us one more time' or ‘Quicken us as we call on Your name'.  Your church has been sleeping and false gods have taken root in our nation.  We need to pray they will die from the roots up like the fig tree Jesus cursed in Mark 11.  We must make our stand and lift a banner of prayer and intercession over our land.

Send forth Your word Lord and let there be light!
