Sarah at the 2004 Summer Glory Convention at Walton on the Naze - An extract from the Glory News
The apostle Paul prayed for the church at Ephesus in Ephesians 1:17-23 to have the spirit of wisdom and revelation. He prays for the eyes of our understanding (heart) to be enlightened. That is the first step to receiving revelation from the Lord. As long as the enemy can keep you in ignorance he has you in spiritual darkness. The answer is to know the truth (John 8:31-32) . God says He has blessed us with all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ. That is our position. This knowledge belongs to every child of God.
The mightiest working God ever did on the earth was to raise Jesus from the dead. Ephesians 2:1 says ‘and you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins’.
When Christ died we died with Him and our former self was buried with Him. We were quickened with Him and raised to newness of life. When He was quickened from the dead a new creation man was birthed, the first begotten from the dead. What God did in Christ was He wrought the new creation in Him. When Jesus died He submitted His body to the Father. He said ‘into your hands I commit my spirit’ (Luke 23:46). He knew exactly what He was doing, He was laying His life down as a living sacrifice. He was made sin for us and made sickness for us and at that point when He died He knew the Father was going to raise Him from the dead, a new creation Man. When God the father raised Him, Jesus believed that the Body of Christ, the church would be birthed in Him and would rise with Him from the grave. Death could not hold Jesus. Death is a personality like sin and the devil, if it cannot find a place in you it cannot rule you. In Christ’s life the devil could not find a place in Him so when Jesus went to hell He was a righteous spirit. Death could not hold that righteous spirit so satan had to release Him. Jesus overcame death and he overcame sickness and disease. He took sickness and disease with Him and left it in the grave. As far as the new creation is concerned the battle is won over sickness and disease, and we need to enforce the victory of what He has done for us.
When God raised Jesus from the grave and quickened Him, He also quickened us together with Him. He raised Him up and made us sit with Him at the right hand of the Father, the place of authority. Christ at the right hand of the Father as our great high priest means we have a “Man” in the glory who represents us, His body. In Hebrews1:4 it says ‘He has been given a more excellent name than the angels’.
So Jesus overcame Satan’s powers. When Christ arose we arose with Him because we are His body. You never see anyone going around with just the head, no you always take your body with you. If the head is raised the body is raised too. It says we are seated together with Him. So we as His body have the same authority as Jesus has. The principalities and powers are under our feet, we are far above them.
Jesus has given the church, His body, the Power of Attorney to use His name. We can use His authority on the earth. “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Whatever you loose (as part of the body of Christ) on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).
“Whatever you ask the Father in my name”, He said “I will do it”( John 14:13-14). So God is saying He has given us a signed cheque on the resources of heaven and He is telling us we can fill it in with whatever we want. Whenever we say “in the name of Jesus” the whole of heaven comes to help us.
Now all power and authority has been given to Him in heaven and in earth. If you drove down the road and the traffic lights had failed and a policeman was directing the traffic you would not run the policeman down. You would stop because he has authority. The policeman does not have the physical power to hold back the cars but he has the authority- he has a badge on. It is the same with us. We do not have the physical power over the powers of darkness but we have the authority over them and when we exercise that authority the enemy will leave us because ‘Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world’( 1 John 4:4)
We need to meditate on these things until the light of the knowledge of the gospel floods our hearts and we are transformed into His likeness.(2 Cor 3:18).
Amen.
